Full Version: Monster spawning

I'm yet at the beginnings of the game, yet it seems monsters are only at specific locations on the map or appear only after specific events.

It would be a nice addition if monsters spawned the way like in System Shock 2. It worked by spawning monsters randomly over the map. There was never such a thing as "clear area". You could never know when a monster is going to jump at you, even if you walked the same corridor through a 100 times! And you HAD to walk back and forth through the huge map to complete the game. Now THAT was scary as hell!
Also, monsters weren't just going on specific routes, but wandered around randomly. Sometimes it was best to let them run ahead to some corridor and leave them be. If you went after them to kill them, by the time you return, there might just be some other monster there already walking around.

Something like that random monster spawning and random routes (on top of the scripted or specially placed monsters) would be a major spook element.
I think the wolves have a 50% to take one route over the other would be better, with an occasional 5% to take a route the player thinks is safe.
Haha Windex. Nice guesses with such exact figures.

BTW, got any sources? 8).

I agree! This would just be so cool!
I already said this about a week ago to the developers. Smile
hmmm, I really don't like "spawning creatures" in my youth I played "Goldeneye 64" and the enemies there kept on spawnng and spawning untill I was out of ammo. It's just not natural. imagine you are never safe. never have a break. if the spiders "spawn" ... damn I will hate this masterpiece.
I kind of liked how the monsters would take the same route because it seemed to add a little more puzzle to the game. Still, I would also like to see a change in path or spawn every now and then too.

I'm not an extreme player so I do like a break in intensity every now and then. (In fact, if it were up to me, I would probably keep things nice and easy.) Despite that, there were times even I felt a little too comfortable… since I knew nothing could attack me… any longer. Wink

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I should be kept constantly on guard. Something like a change in path or a spawned monster would definitely do the trick.
during a new game, having (some) monsters spawn in random areas would make it more suspenseful, no longer knowing where a safe area is. some may have to remain in the same place for scripted reasons.
respawning, no. Maybe a game like doom (which they have), but not this. This isn't a action game, it's a horror/adventure.
I like the way they were, some clear areas because it added to the intensity, I mean you never know if there is going to be a enemy there or not. And the fact that when you kill a monster and it never spawns again is great! I mean I don't like it when I clear a room of like 20 monsters and go out the door, but then when I come in again BAM all 20 monsters are back. It adds to the reality that they stay DEAD!

Oh and if the dogs did not have assigned paths would have been great.
