Well, after you encounter the first dog who seems to be seeking you and defeated it, it practically loss the entire scaryness.
I realized that I actually just had to run through the levels and kill every dog I meet or just run away.
How about making some invincible (slow, makes loud noises when following the player) monster thats patrouling around, you can't just "run through" the levels then.
Thanks for your effort making that game anyway.
(I don't really mean this game was bad)
Invisible monsters? I do not like that idea, would ruin the game IMO

How does it change it if we can see or cannot see the enemy? We can still run through the game.
took me a few replays to actually have the confidence in killing them. the first time I played it, or maybe even the 2nd or 3rd, I found out that you can kill them. the person who made up this walkthrough stated that you can't.
more on topic, I didn't really think the worm bit was scary (the rumbling, dust in air), so an invisible or out of sight dog wouldn't be scary.
If it's possible, what may be scary, is have a different number of dogs and their locations after each replay.

This is true! I've said that few times too, by myself in other Threads.
Let's hope that Developers do that in next Episodes!

I think he said invincible, not invisible, as in you can see them but they cannot be wounded. The worm was invincible as far as I could tell, at least I do not know of a way to kill it.
As for the dogs in the game, I think it would be interesting if they were actually faster than the player, and could pounce you from behind and pin you to the ground and hurt you badly if you do not manage to kick them off or something. And in order to successfully get away from them you could try and dodge them when they do pounce, or throw things in their way to distract them.
One way to use their pounce behaviour to your advantage could be to stand in front of a trap or something, and trick them to pounce you, and if youre quick enough dodge out of their way and they will jump into the trap. And if you fail the dodge you just may be toast if it pushes you into the trap instead.
Haha..
Well Break is right, I meant invincible, not invisible.
Anyway he got some nice ideas there with the pouncing dogs.
(And I mean a enemy that hunts you, not like the worm, which appears only in some scenes, bound to a "rail".
I wonder how accurate the polls are now when we now determined which one you meant. They look so similar though lol.
Anyway, thanks to the walkthrough i read, i thought they were invincible and i was a bit scared of them. maybe that would work. its the same thing as gun or no gun. adding guns would make it less scary.
i think that all the decisions the staff made about the few enemies u encounter are quite ok besides one thing....
the dogs are scary enough...and hard enough to kill... untill u find out that jumping on the crates makes u unreachable for the dogs but u can use the pickaxe to safely kick their @sses until they die... from that point on the dogs aren't so scary anymore.... but then in the final part of the tunnels u can see that the low crates u can jump on don't exist anymore so u just HAVE to hide from the dogs...
it's almost impossible to kill them face to face...
the worms are pretty scary... they made me sh** in my pants because there is NO way to kill them... i managed to block the second one right after the first doors u close... if u climb on 2 barrels and make him turn backwards towards the wall where the angle is with the wooden planks over ur head i found out that the worm just blocks itself facing the wall and doesn't turn towards u ... now i dunno if this was just a bug.. consider that i was standin on top of the metal barrels and then he passed under me making me fall off the barrels and on top of him (inside him actually...3d models bug)...maybe that blocked him...
anyway with this trick i was able to open the chemical storage slow-opening hydraulic door with all the calm in the world ... O_O phew and that was a release ... :O XD
anyway great game and the right amount of enemies....not too many to becom a usual FPS ... just don't put any crates in the next one.. make those dogs almost impossible to kill and it becomes perfect !
oh and one thing....... the worms aren't "static" at all....... Not the second one...he follows u wherever u go and is also able to completely change direction and also turn backwards ;-) cheers
I don't bother with games except for on the max (or non fps games less than one) difficulty. So needless to say, I didn't just stroll around the game killing dogs. If I made the mistake of getting a dog's attention, that was it, unless my shoes currently had wings and I was far enough away, I was done for. Twice I was able to give the dog a good wonking and had it scamper off, the pups however, were invincible. If the game was too easy, just up the difficulty!
Unfortunately the game became much less scary once I realized the techniques they used to instill the fear. It's the same tactics I used when I made games, all you have to do is let the player's imagination do the work. Of course, there were still a number of times I would have to emit a very heartfelt profanity out of shock, or slip back into the game in some very creepy areas.
