I think you can push a barrel against the mattress to push it away. you can also solve the puzzle without the need to move the mattress at all, in 2 more ways i think.

Thanks but I already tried that and the barrel will just clip right through the mattress. So what are some other ways to solve this since this is the only way I have seen in the walkthroughs? I tried just jumping over the steam from a barrel but that didnt work.
Actually there seems to be a lot of bugs in this little demo and it is v1.1 just in case that matters. Earlier in the game an ax stuck in the floor while as was trying to pick it up. I really hope Overture and Black Plague arent as quirky and buggy because this type of game seems pretty neat.
You can push barrels infront of the steam coming from the lower two pipes or you can use the vent tool and use the ventilation system in the first corridor(close to where you found the metal rod in the beginning) and get through to the other side of the steam(if memory serves me right)

I tried the barrels in front of the steam but that didnt work either. I could block the one on the left but every time I tried the one on right I would die. Also the game stutters and hitches really bad about half the time I start from the last save. The Overture demo seemed to play just fine so hopefully there wont be these kinds of probs with the full game.
