It was really easy and it made the game 200% better. I think if I heard grey say "must of been a rat" even once I would start laughing for the rest of the game playing experience. Atleast by doing that I maintained any scaryness that was left having to listen to Clarence the 40 year old clown.
I could do this very easily, I can put together a slight package.
But first; would you rather have the voice slots muted, or replaced with one of the existing growls?
Actually, looking through the files; I might be able to just disable the sound entirely instead of filling it with empty noise.
I'll get back to you; at the worst it'll take an hour or two, but since I do have bad luck any audio-programs I have will mysteriously need a new license or something.

I figured out a temporary fix.
IdleFOV = "165"
IdleFoundPlayerSound = "infected_angry"
IdleMinSeeChance = "0.3"
IdleMinHearVolume = "0.3"
IdleSound="infected_idle_breath"
IdleSoundMinInteraval = "4"
IdleSoundMaxInteraval = "5"
IdleCallBackupChance = "0.35"
idleFoundPlayerSound I put in infected_angry instead of the pre-existing one. I removed all other sounds. So when he finds you he makes this loud growl. Quite effective.
EDIT: And here it is.

If done correctly, you will be asked to over-write 3 files. Click yes.
I have not tested this, and is a pretty cheap fix. Pretty much I set the volume of the file that controls the sounds to zero.
Beware! If this works correctly; it will not make a sound when a hunt starts, when it hears you, or when the hunt stops.

But not all of the sounds are bad...it's just the ones where he speaks. infected_angry is a great sound. so are some of the others lol
I know, it does not disable anything else.
Let me rephrase what I meant in the last post;
It will disable the sounds made when it Finds the player, when it Hears the player, and when it Stops looking for the player.
During the hunt, it will still make sounds. Only finding the player, hearing, losing the player is when it audibly speaks.
Your way seems better though; a bit more work, but greater effect.
Oh jens, you silly goose!

I found the topic! Woot !
Yea takes an extra couple of minutes but the infected_angry is truly a great sound and I would hate to lose it...I wish we could improve the AI now. lol
