The game crashes/returns to the desktop after the intro ends?
You do not have the graphics card required. Minimum: ATI Radeon 8500/NVIDIA GeForce3(GeForce4MX not supported). Make sure you have the latest patch. If you have a supported card but still experience problems, make sure your drivers are up-to-date by visiting Ati.com or Nvidia.com. To see what graphics card you have, go to Start Menu -> Run... -> In the Open: prompt type DxDiag -> In the window that appears, click on the Display tab.

If you need to change some settings, but the game crashes before you enter the menu, check this thread:

The game crashes as I leave the office.
This is a known bug in the demo, it occurs if a game session is too long. Usually restarting the game and loading the last saved game solves the problem. At times the saved game has been corrupted, only fix is to delete the saved game from the "installation dir/redist/save" folder and start over from the beginning of the game.

The game wont run on my GeForce2/GeForce4 MX?
These cards are not supported by the game.

The game wont run on my Intel graphics card?
At the moment NO Intel cards are supported or have been reported functioning. This include GMA 900: 910GL, 915G, 915GL, 915GV. GMA 950: 945G, 945GZ. The new GMA 3000/GMA X3000: Q963 Express, Q965 Express, G965 Express are unknown if they run the game or not.

I get strange graphics glitches and I'm using an ATI graphics card.
This probably is because the A.I optimisation option is enable in Catalyst Center. Try turning it off. If you have odd looking white pixles this was fixed in the 1.1 release. Download the latest release.
For ATI owners, also check this thread:
http://www.frictionalgames.com/forum/sho...p?tid=2612

My textures looks grainy and strange, especially the areas where light meets shadow.
Try the above A.I optimization and/or in the control panel for you graphics card make sure that the "Texture preference" is set to "High Quality" for OpenGL.

The bloom/Motion blur behaves strange.
It has been reported that this is related to using StarDock WindowBlinds 5. Try turning it off until we can come up with a more permanent fix.

I can only play with 60hz refresh rate!?
Currently the game only runs in 60hz and it's not possible to change the setting. You can however use Refresh Lock to force the game to run at a higher refresh rate.

I have no audio
First make sure you have the latest drivers for you audio card. It's likely you have either a SoundBlaster(SB for short) by Creative or a Realtek AC97 by Realtek. Visit the appropriate site to get the latest drivers, usually in the support/downloads section. If you have a card by another manufacturer, use Google to find their site!
Most sound cards come with software and driver configuration tools, these often have a "reset to default" option that can solve most problems. Usually you can access these settings either through the Start menu -> Programs or in the Start menu -> Control Panel ->Sounds, Speech and Audio devices.
To see what audio card you have, go to Start Menu -> Run... -> In the Open: prompt type DxDiag -> In the window that appears, click on the Sound tab.

My Surround sound setup isn't working properly!(4.1/5.1/7.1)
The Penumbra tech demo does not support surround sound. However, the upcoming Penumbra: Overture will!

I can't move the mattress in the corridor!
This is a known bug that appears if you load a saved game after you have been in the corridor. It's not going to be fixed. There are other ways around the Steam and you can use things to access the other things that are behind the mattress incase you didn't get a chance to move it in the first place. Or you can replay from the start and make sure you move the mattress the first time you enter the corridor.

I'm stuck, is there a walkthrough?
You can find one here. It's only partial though. Here is another one. And this one is fabulous.

I'm stuck and I don't find the walkthrough helpful!
Remember that you have the Notebook and Personal Notes. You can bring them up using the default N and P keys. In personal notes you will most likely always have the next tasks you need to do to be able to get further.

I've played the game for a while and now it seems to have ended very abruptly?!
Yeah, you probably finished the game. It's a technology demonstration, it's intended to be quite short. We calculate that the average player completes the game in about two hours.

"MX cards are not supported by the game."

and will they be?
(please...)
I am thinking about of doing it. My girl friend has a laptop with this really crappy ibm graphics card and I am thinking about making the game playable on her computer. If I can get that working every computer > 486 should be able to play it (almost at least Toungue)

Midnight

jeez, thanks, man...! =)
so i'll wait...
and i'm sure that this one is worth waiting, cause the playability & editability & extendability looks great...!

I don't really know anything about computers. I'm more of a console gamer. I'm just turning 18 in a few months, so, until like 2 years ago, I never had money to keep a gaming behemoth going; console was the way to go. I don't intend on changing to PC Gamer either. I only play Jedi Academy (with the Movie Battles 2 modification) and Sid Meier's Pirates! on PC. Anyway, I get the "crashes after intro" problem, and I have an NVIDIA GeForce 4 Ti 4200 card, which would be better than the minimum NVIDIA GeForce3... wouldn't it? So why do I have this crash? Sad
Pilo T:
Geforce 4 Ti should work. IF you are having problems please post the contents of hpl.log in a new thread in the technical support thread. Before doing so though, make sure you have version 1.1 and that you have the latest drivers for your card.

Pilo T

I downloaded the full install for 1.1, and the zip is called 1.1, so I have no doubt in my mind that I have 1.1...
As for the other things, I don't know how to obtain this hpl.log, but since it has a document extension, I'm assuming it's some kind of word file in the Penumbra directory, so, tomorrow, after I've gone to sleep, I will definitely get on that. As for the drivers thing... yeah, when it comes to computers I'm a dumbass. I know what a driver is for the most part, but how do I go about making sure I have it all updated and such?
