I'm using a 38" monivision computer monitor but a normal computer image shows up too dark on it, I use ATI's catalyst control center to adjust my gamma, contrast, and brightness for my desktop and most 3d games but when I run penumbra it still shows up too dark, it's cancelling out catalyst's settings and using it's own. This would be fine except I can only change the gamma in the game and not the brightness and contrast. When I alt+tab catalyst takes back over and for a split second I can see the game correctly lit as it's supposed to be but nothing I do makes it stick, it always goes back to being too dark. Can anybody think of a solution for this problem? It would make my penumbra experience a lot more enjoyable (i know it's supposed to be dark but I can't see $#!T!)

Thanks, -Luke
try to run Penumbra in windowmode
have you tried the in-game gamma/brightness settings?

luke420

^ there is no brightness setting that i've found, nor contrast, only gamma, if there were it would be no problem. i'm going to try to run in windowed mode, sounds promising, i'll be back with the results...

luke420

yeah ok umm quick question, how do i run this game in windowed mode?

sorry to sound like a n00b... :(
go to \Penumbra\redist folder and open settings.cfg with notepad. Change:
FullScreen="true" to FullScreen="false". Save and run the game
This is a silly question, but are you using the flashlight/lightstick?

jager, i went thru that file like twice and didn't think to do that, thanks :) anyway after doing that, changing the game resolution to 800x600, and messing around with catalyst i got the game to run properly in a window (which isn't nearly as fun as a full 38" worth).

i already beat the game a couple of days ago though, while i was waiting on someone to reply to this i went ahead and hooked up a 17" lcd monitor to the output on this monivision monitor and placed the LCD screen right in front of the BIG one and played the game all the way through, it was really cool because i could look at the game with the perfect lighting on the LCD but directly behind it was this huge, dark, scary image of the game.

my next step is to find a long enough composite video cable and hook my video card to my projector (across the room) so i can play penumbra and war rock on 80 inches of wall

and yes gamgam i was using the flashlight and glow stick, i may not be the smelliest bud in the bag but i'm not THAT burnt :D

by the way, i hope the full version of the game has brightness and contrast setting in addition to the gamma setting
