This topic involves major spoilers about the ending, along with the editing of certain game files, allowing you to pass through walls or for certain events to never happen.

I can’t describe how to edit the game files, and I don’t recommend it unless you actually know what you are doing, otherwise you will likely mess the game completely up. Some of the ways I can pass through walls was found accidentally, and is not a glitch/exploit.
If a mod feels topic is ’illegal’ just remove it.

So I’ll start off with the ‘end’ of Red. You end up cooking, right?
Perhaps not. Even today’s cremation machines take more than 10 seconds for someone to be completely dissolved to a small pile of dust. Another thing, since when does the entire human body, thrashing around while being cremated, end up as a neat, little pile of ash?
I would believe it would all stretched out.
And he’s alive awful long in there, and when he ‘dies’ the machine finishes cooking him, not 3 seconds after you stopped hearing him. A little fishy.
I realize this might have been done to conserve game time and so the player ‘realizes’ what happened. But this sticks in my head “ things aren’t what they seem to be” I believe that was said in the game.

And now onto the note you found on the stairs. Last updated 2000. You’re mother’s death was 2001. The game takes place in 2002.
So the timeline completely stops at 2000. Perhaps there’s a little foul play involved, maybe Philips father was communication with his mother.

Lastly, the man at the end of the hallway. The hall way has 5 doors (2 you can tell is locked, 2 are a little in front of the man, and 1 behind the man, which might not be seeable.
All doors don’t have anything behind them, if you pass through them, you fall off the map.

But, now to the man. I’ve included 2 pictures below this of the man at different angles. Yes, he’s completely black because he has no texture, so the game defaults his color as black. He casts a shadow if I turn my flashlight on, but I can actually pass right on through him.

Notice his arm, it’s considerably smaller than his other arm, perhaps they’ve been doing little operations on him also. I forgot if I included the feet in the picture, but they appear to not have any shoes on, so it’s just his naked feet.

Red did say, to directly quote him, "Parts of my head are not my own! And I cannot take my life, it is against the rules." It's pretty clear that the Elevated Caste is doing some kind of human experimentation.

Going back to some other quotes, Philip says that "everything I had seen up until that point was just symptomatic of whatever lay beyond the threshold." If the spiders and rock worms have become so large because something sped up their evolutionary process, the Elevated Caste was probably doing that too. So who knows what the effects are on humans? Ew.

I agree with what you said about the incinerator. Philip said he was unable to turn it off because it was on the previous setting, so it's probably set to dispose of whatever experiments they're doing. That's probably just how they got rid of them.

Whatever's going on actually happened more recently than you said: his mom died in 2000, and he left a year later (so the game takes place in 2001). Also, if you read Red's journal, he says there was a major cave-in in late 1970. This is "almost thirty years" since his father was declared dead. Coincidence?

Oh and am I the only one who thought that last hallway looked like the one from the tech demo?
Spoiler below!
It kinda did, but it's not the same texture any of the same hallways, but it does have military-like base feel in it.

This is the best discussion thread of this forum. First off, thanks for the pictures, they were awesome, though I would like that you played on 3.0 gamma or at least high gamma so you get a better look.

They are obviously conducting experiments down in this vault. The interesting thing is that Red survived so long behind that wall of rock. He always complained of hunger, but all he had was some slugs, where did they come from and I doubt that he would survive all the time with just slugs as food. Was he experimented on? Also where did the body come from in the closet? He said also that he had some friends that he killed. He obviously killed the climber as well, he mentions this in a radio message.

I dislike that he "killed" himself just as you were about to find him. I doubt this was a coincidence. He must hide somewhere.

Interesting thread as I said before, will follow it well. Thanks also for making the thread as I wanted you to do before.

Hmm. I can't seem to post for some reason. Every time I say what I was trying to say, I either get a 403 forbidden error or the page never stops loading...
Spoiler below!
Good point about the food. It seems like he's eaten almost nothing for a very long time. Maybe part of the project they've been doing has to do with immortality? That kinda explains the not being able to kill himself.

EDIT: I just checked out Silhouette Man using my Super Glowstick mod, and I got this.

It seems like he isn't missing an arm, just that it's on his hip at a very awkward angle.

Willbreaker: Red didn't kill himself, you do it to him when you push the button of that machine he is in.

I'd just like to say... don't write things like "they're obviously doing some human experiments".

We don't know that. Let's leave it to the developers. :)

Although, if I were to try and guess what's going on... I think it could have been experiments on the strange substance (extraction and testing) using slave labor. That would explain the barbed wire and cages. Tho a lot of things still don't fit.

I think Red burned so fast simply because it's a game. If you want to be so accurate, then the hooks in that room (the one's hanging, not sticking out the walls) are "solid", and aren't affected by physics (a shame).

Finally, I think you guys are looking into this silhouette-man a bit too much. For all we know he could be quite normal in shape, but simply standing at an angle. He was never really meant to be looked up close.
You sure you need to hide each and every post in a thread warning you "ending revealed" "major spoilers"? :D Seems like a bit of an overdoing and looks funny. ;)
Should have named it 'uncensored' and 'puberty spoiler'
