Hello!
I just finished the game, and what can I say? It was amazing, actually it was so much more than I had expected. I didn't think the game would be so deep, I was honestly really touched near the end of the game. :(
Also, I loved how the game wasn't focused on combat. I didn't kill anything besides a spider or two (even that was hard enough!). I'm happy the game wasn't TOO scary either, if there would have been loads of crazy stuff and monsters everywhere the game wouldn't have felts as realistic (in my opinion). Also, the character you played felt real, I could related to what he was thinking etc.
The graphics were great aswell, and so was the sounds. I'd say the atmosphere is up there with Half-Life 2 and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.! And of course, the physics. I loved just picking up items and see how they reacted with the world, I found myself blocking doors etc. just to "feel safe". :D
I can't wait for the next episode! Keep up the great work guys. :)
Hello Garenth!
I agree with you, the game is amazing, and there is nothing worse than having to wait for the sequel!
I really like what you write, I can truly relate to it. The game wasn't too scary, but real scary at times, and then I also played with gamma turned up to 3.0!
What I found funny in your post is that you trusted a barrel or whatever to block out the monsters :D. If they wanted they'd break that barrel easily. I'd love to see your reaction then.

LOL, yeah, I know. That's the thing though! I did it becouse it felt logical, and even though no monsters were even nearby, it added alot to the feeling and atmosphere of the game. :)
I hear you, man. You are smart enough to realize that a barrel blocking a door should hold out a monster - this it should, but in the game it doesn't, so it feels wierd.
But I also recognize what you are saying "added alot to the feeling..". I agree, when you take yourself these "liberties" and build your own fortress it feels so great. Great that you found that feeling!

Yeah, it would be awesome if this was used more in the coming episodes. For example, I think it would be cool if you could manipulate the game world more, like using a hammer and nails to board up doors etc. Set your own traps maybe? :)
Now you are taking it to the extreme. No game except perhaps Garrys mod allows you to make traps (and in Garys mod you have supernatural powers). Of course that would be awesome - as you say, but let's be realistic. I think that this ability to make traps will take some time to develop, and it won't be a feature in the coming episodes.

I wasn't talking about something too spectacular. Traps have been used in countless other games, and come to think of it, it was used in the first episode (to some extent) aswell.
What I was thinking about was more in the line of maybe setting up explosives that triggers when someone came near it / crossed some wire or whatever, stuff like that. It could make for some exciting and creative gameplay, at least I think so. :)
Sure - traps have been occasional in some games as you say - this is correct, but they have been mostly scripted and nothing that you can actually create by hand in the game.
Perhaps I have misunderstood you, but when I think of making traps I think of something in the lines of tying a knot somewhere that leads to some huge spikes either flipping up or perhaps a giant log falling from the side ;D.
Perhaps you mean simple things like, bear traps that you can place, these being entirely scripted, or some minor unscripted traps like barrels falling down a slope?
Sure, even unscripted minor traps could be fun and creative but in my oppinion it wouldn't add all that much to the gameplay. Only large traps with true effect would. Or perhaps if there is a part somewhere in a game that you actually have to build a giant trap to kill a series of opponents charging you ;D. Wouldn't that be great?
At least I think so.

Just finished the game too.
Have been waiting for long for this game to be released since I played that very first demo about a year ago.
My thoughts:
1. not bad at all
2. not that scary but it certainly had its moments (the ending for one with the dark figure at the end of the corridor)
3. glad to read here...that you could actually kill some animals, lol.
I gave up after knocking down one of the dogs twice and seeing the nasty bugger stand up time and time again. Howl!
4. on the real (but only real) downside: at times maybe just a bit too much text to plow through and I mean the documents not the voice over parts
5. on the minor downside: now and then buggy as I came across sections at times where suddenly the hand did not appear where it should have. I could solve it by selecting and deselecting a tool but it was annoying at times.
Conclusion: not bad at all and the reviewer from PC Gamer UK (current issue) gave a perfectly balanced review too in my opinion.
Keep building those next two chapters!
And I'm glad your game reached...Belgium.

4- I have heard this a few times and I think the reading was sweet. Like in Morrowind and Oblivion I read nearly all the books I came across. It helps immerse you in the game.
5- Sounds like some individual problem, I haven't heard this one before.
