I have beaten the tech demo and have played Oveture at a friends. I havn't got round to acctualy buying for myself yet, which I should do. Anyway I thought that the penumbra engine would be a perfect engine to create other horror games/maps for. However I have this horrible feeling that you used 3dsmax to make maps? However if there is a map maker program ( I have the mod tools, but I don't think there is a map maker in there. I normaly map for Hl2 using the hammer editor). If there is one I would be greatful if you could point me in it's direction. I have some pretty cool ideas for stories.
im srry to say that 3ds max or maya are the only way to make maps for penumbra
it is fairly easy once you get the hang of it (the only problem i got wasa with zoning, i had 0% 3ds max experience :)
I may need to get it then. However to make good maps surely you would have to be a good modeler?
actualy yes, you need to have understanding of it
dont let this scare you off tough
all the knowledge will grow over time
in the meanwhile pickup the 3ds max trial (try for a version with collada export functions/plugins) and try tutorials
do them until you feel comfortably adn then by the time the mod tools come out you will be able to create a basic map with alot of detail :)
