Elevator Shaft
The player is shown an entry of a brief original intro, and a small string of pictures from the tech demo, with garbled intro sound from both penumbra and overture. The last picture is a straight-on shot of the last door, and the tech demo entry becomes suddenly very clear.
NOTE TO SELF: Too many pictures are needed, and too quickly for the original way of penumbra to work. Instead, a snappier, GIF way will work.
The elevator slightly creaks and groan. If possible, apply a VERY slight gravity-wave thing like in Overture-Boat.
The player is told to hit the elevator button (Numpad), which is barely holding onto it’s last wires.
The elevator starts going down, at a slow pace. Creaking and grinding increases slightly, but not noticeably. Wave effect is gone.
A short time after the elevator starts going down, the light bulb starts buzzing softly, than starts to get louder over a short time.
When the light bulb buzz is getting loud, the player’s ear starts ringing.
When the ring is at It’s max, the light bulb suddenly goes off, and both sounds suddenly disappear.
The elevator grinds to a suddenly, causing a slight shake effect. Wave effect is back.
The player is told what he has in his inventory, and the key to press to use it. The player as the inventory where the tech demo left off with.
Objective 1: Find what the hell is going on
The elevator has stopped working, the creaking is getting worse, and it’s getting dangerously cold in here. I need to see if I can do anything at all to get myself out of this.
There are several things in the elevator. The overhead light, and a electricity panel next to it (on the top). There is also a bench “The bench is fastened to the wall pretty securely, but if I had to it wouldn’t take too long to cut through the thin mesh holding it up.†the numpad, and a small metal box that’s locked.
The numpad is barely holding on, with NONE occasional spark shooting out of it. The player needs to hold onto it, and ‘right click’ to throw it. Throwing it will break it off.
Pick the numpad off the ground, and ‘place’ it near the metal box.
A short animation will occur, with the player ‘beating’ the metal box with the numpad. The player grunts while doing so, to stimulate the player hitting it.
Each hit causes the box to break alittle more, and finally the doorway of the metal box to fall out.
Inside the metal box are some papers, a wrench, and a can of ‘ration’, along with some wire.
The papers are elevator type, production model, safety features, emergency procedeuours, ect. One of the emergency features is what to do in a power shortage.
It tells that the power cord comes from above, going through the light fixture first, than electronic panel, than the motor far below. It doesn’t say how to fix it, just ‘wait for a repair man to rescue you’
The other paper you pick up is hand written, and tells that the connection cable going to the light fixture often comes apart, most often when the elevator is cold and hasn’t been used in awhile, mainly during holiday leave.
It tells you to use the wrench on the electricity box near the ceiling, open it up, use some wire to hold the thing together long enough.
In order to reach the ceiling, the player must use the wrench on the bench attached to the wall. Doing so removes the bolts, allowing it to fall off the wall.
Use the bench to get closer to the ceiling, and jumping to open the box and attach the wire.
Once you have done this, the electricity comes back, with the light bulb flickering slightly
Objective 2: Getting the move back on:
Go back to the numpad which is still on the floor. Put it back in place where it originally was on the wall, and use the wrench to fasten it back in place.
Press the button and it will start heading downward again.
Objective 3: Open the damn doors!
The elevator slows down, and a small ‘ping’ sound goes off, telling the player it has reached it’s destination.
The player right clicks on the door, but it’s *surprise* jammed. The player needs to use something from his inventory to force the door open.
The wrench (unless something better) is best pick.
Upon pushing the door open, the wrench breaks in 2 pieces. The player is told the door looks like it can open now, and the player goes downward into the pits of hell….
When the player breaks them, they’re put into the inventory.
