cool. http://www.planetdescent.com, still active, but not so busy like other forums. I think another is dbb.net or ddb.net, not sure. planetdescent would know; it's another descent forum. I don't really go there at all, just hear about it from time to time on planetdescent.
I remember them saying stuff like, "in level 15, when with the hellion, they were going to have hellion babies come at you, and you'd also be able to shoot the ceiling and have lava pour out and kill it."
There are others, just don't want to get too off track.

oh thanks... except i dont even have the game installed. I never actually beat it. Pretty cool because Descent 3 came with a sound card my dad bought many years back. Also came with one of my favorite games of all time now.
ok yeah, we are getting off topic. Sorry!

I like the episode idea, gives developers experience as they go, gets the game faster into the publics hands, and allows development to evolve as it goes, seeing what works and what doesn't.
Only complaint about the episodes in my view is ONLY 3??!?!!?
they cut it short before it even had a chance :(

Well, I belive that the entire story for the game already is done but that they havn't mapped/modelled/scripted much of it yet.
By releasing it in 3 parts they can release Ep. 1, see how it goes. In this case it went well and they have had a lot of fans, so now they know it's safe to release Ep. 2 and perhaps with a few good things fans suggested at the forums.
It will only be 3 parts since the story is, say 15 hours long, and making trilogies is more popular than 2-part games and splitting it into 4 or 5 parts whould make each episode too short.
If a game is too short, it all goes down to hell.
Frictional Games is indeed just a small studio, and I'd pretty much call them newbies in the game development buisness (With Penumbra: Overture beeing their first "real game"), so releasing it in 3 parts is safer so they can pick up a few feedback tricks and learn what the fans like.

Wow, you revived a very old thread... anyhow yes, the last guy is right... there is only two episodes now, its not 3, that's old news. It is unfortunate, but that is how it goes... Anyway, the second episode is pretty creepy (played the demo so far at the time of this writing), especially since they basically removed combat out of the equation. No broom, no pickaxe, etc.
