Why was the game announced so soon ?
by this i mean .. wouldnt of it be better not to announce the game yet to reviewers and COMPLEATLY making shure your episode 1 works perfectly by taking the times to test it on multiple platforms ? ( if your a team of good brain dudes to come up with a game like that, shurly you know people with vista and ati cards! lets not forget ATI is actualy more popular then nvidia due to its prices beeing lower)
then post trailers
and then once the game would of been fixed, making it 1 DVD game instead of 3 little 300mb games ?
just wondering if there was a reason. was the game intentionaly going to be in 3 ? or you guys had a rush or something
I personally like the idea of Penumbra being split into Episodes.
This way, we won't have to wait until the whole story is complete, the developers get a bit of money each time they publish a new episode, and don't have to starve for years until they make profit (I really feel sorry for the Duke Nukem Forever team ;) ), and it creates a bit of tension, since although the first Episode kind of concluded one storyline, it's still a cliffhanger.
Also, by releasing Penumbra in threee Episodes, the developers will get feedback before continuing, and can react to that feedback in the other two episodes.
Well this was made by a very small team with small amounts of money to spend, not the mega-companys that can use hundreds of thousands to purchase any computer they want.

Me too. Also it's good to make episodes since they can add new features easier than they can in one big game. Also the feedback after each episode also ables them to shape the next episodes to be more scary/anything people would like to see in the next episodes. And if it would've been a big game instead of the eps and they'd release some kind of feature update ( for example adding a blowtorch to weld stuff together) I think I wouldn't bother to play the game again just to check it out (if I had already completed it) but in the eps it kinda forces you to see these new features and you also get a new piece of storyline with it.
New, good features + new storyline = an unresistable package (at least for me ^_^)
I like that idea too, by splitting the game into three parts make the game come sooner, if they haven't splitted the game, episode 1 wouldn't lie in our hands now. Besides of that, they don't get the same amount of money if they release one game as if they release three games.:P
More money = Spend more on the future episodes = Better episodes:D
I think it all revolves around risk. A small development team with a successful tech demo likely said to themselves, "We can make some money off of this, showcase some new innovations, and entertain people." It is way too risky to spend development money for one massive 50 dollar/Euro game, when a small episode will gradually bring people in...also, development time is increased, and you will need a larger fanbase that is more 'paitent' than are the average gamers...by dividing it into three episodes, they can attract a larger market, cut initial developing costs, fix any gameplay issues in a later episode, all while maintaing the integrity of their ideas.
I think it was a wise idea (even though I do not know all the facts...:P) to divide up the game into multiple parts...oh, but one DVD with bonus material ("making of" videos, concept art, the 2006 tech demo, all three Overture episodes, etc.) would really freakin' rock. :) Of course, it is much too early to be even considering such a product, being that my appetite is already preparing for more...please, no more suffering...no more, I say...:P
I liked the idea of three episodes! (and before SirRaven correct me, I´m speak portuguese and learn english by myself)
But I´m really missing the mod tools or a phisyx playground room where u can blow out things and make some cool traps with barrels and beef jerk! Oo"
And I have another complain, very serious!!!!!!!
I CAN´T WAIT FOR THE SECOND EPISODE!!!!!!!
let see in Episodes has it's advantage as well
first of if you noticed there is a feed back section if the team fully utilise every ones feed back and bug findings how much better would Episodes 2 be instead of all as 1 big set release
plus they get the advertised 3 times by reviews on the game via the 3 Episodes
so if any one miss the 1st but see the second when it comes out they have to get the first :D

Assuming they are stand-alone episodes. They are stand-alone, right?
yup, the episodes are anti-social.
