Common colour problem

Hey
Lately i started playing Penumbra: Overture and i thought that its purposeful effect... but it getting too far:

the colors when its dark looks like they're in 8 bits, as well the steam effect and spider webs

Windows XP sp3, AMD Athlon 2600+, 1 GB RAM, Radeon 9800 pro (Omega drivers 3.8.442)
