Okay, so I decided to reinstall Penumbra since I remember it being a fantastic series of games before, but since the last driver update I've been getting the "your graphics card does not support vertex shaders" issue on startup. My ATI Radeon 5570HD is at driver version 8.670.0.0.

try installing Catalyst 11.9 which is the latest drivers.
