Battery & Generator

I have been trying to use the battery on the generator where the open panel is, but it says "that will do no good." Where am I supposed to put the darn battery?

This is where you knock the box down and retrieve a battery? You should be able to just double click on that battery and place it in there, right where the open panel is. Be sure the icon is not in red, that states it's in the wrong area. Move it around until you see it in a grayish/lighter color. If that still doesn't work, guessing from the game, you may need the 'generators note" or "generators manual" I believe it's the second one, basically a note talking about the generator and how to get it going. To my knowledge, I think it's in the room, by the lantern; near the door you just came through to get in the power room.
