Penumbra: Black Plague - Crash at Research Room

I was playing Penumbra: Black Plague last night and managed to get up to the Research Room before the game crashed. I tried playing it again today but when it loaded I was stuck in the ground and couldn't move or look around. The title screen music was still playing and I could hear the sound of a wheel being turned and doors opening but nothing was happening on screen. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem?

Try loading an earlier save and see if that helps.
