All 3 games - Can you set the game to load in 800x600 res?

My computer desktop is set at 1280x960. When I want to play any Penumbra game at this resolution, it states it's out of range. Someone from my distro forum (Mandriva) stated about changing the resolution on the desktop using KRandR down to 800x600 and at 75 Hz.
It works, but this sort of gets annoying when I go back to the game and forget to change it, then having to do a hard reboot.

Is there some setting I can do to make the resolution change to 800x600?
