Small Problem

Not sure if this is a Problem or just my stupidity, after getting in the man hole (in overture), at the VERY start, i know Im supposed to break the planks with the hammer...but it wont let me do it for the life of me...i thought i might of missed something and wouldn't let me continue..but nope...searched those two rooms inside and out. Its pretty obvious your supposed to use the hammer on the planks..but it just will not let me do it :E

Hammer don't affect? ...or like mostly, people don't know how to use it. :
