it's a piece of meace though. you can throw it so dogs will start eating (but it never worked for me, i completed whole game without them).

Same here, I never used even one of them.

Read that if you wanted, you can lure the dogs by throwing the meat and use the steamer to kill them.

yeah, that is possible. it's a bit slower. um, deja vu. there are some things I find in the game that can be 'easy yet slower'. that being one of them. the quicker version is just hitting/killing the dog, and even quicker, running away.
if the dog sees you, the beef jerky won't do any good. it's logical. if you see something large and tasty throw down a measly little slice of meat, who/what will you go after?

Yes. I personally would not have bothered doing that, would have ran or just kicked their butt as you suggested.

timing is important in killing the dogs and spiders. as they get up, you can't hurt them. you have to wait until they are completely up.

Using the beef-jerky to distract the dogs works for me. I find when I throw some down for them, the dogs leave me alone for a longer period of time.
