I've noticed this pattern too and I think it kind of makes sense. A good portion of girls do like cute things and Daniel's wimpiness does give off a woobie/"aw I just want to protect you" vibe. Many guys like to feel tough so being subjugated to being a coward probably was off putting for a lot. I'll admit, being a girl, I do find Daniel kind of adorable at times but what drew me to him when I first played the game was what Abraxas said: it was refreshing to have a coward instead of a hero-type. It was nice seeing a male main protagonist being really vulnerable since I haven't come across that in the games I've played.

Alardem makes a good point that none of FG's characters usually don't follow that burly strong-man hero type though. I've always appreciated FG doing a good job with their cast like that. But I think we can agree/have agreed before that Daniel is the easiest to shake up compared to the others.

Don't know what you're on about, I haven't noticed that at all. Maybe YOU dislike him for being a 'wimp,' but I think it's nice to have a character with more depth than "RAWR KILL ALL THE THINGS!"

Daniel might have actually been safer in the dark than in the light, but nobody I know ever feels safer in the dark. Maybe Frictional shouldn't have worked that into the gameplay, but I thought it was a great touch, helped you feel the darkness a bit more.

RE: Daniel vs Mandus - CorinthianMerchant - 10-22-2013

I'm a guy and I believe that Daniel is far superior to Mandus.

I'm a girl, I like him for being a wimp and I agree that "it's nice to have a character with more depth than "RAWR KILL ALL THE THINGS!". But I feel his character was missing something. A crucial thing even.
A dead mother. Yeah.... a dead mother would have worked wonderfully...

And a dedicated sidekick dog that you know isn't going to make it to the end.

It's generally easier for us to connect with someone who committed atrocities as a result of circumstance than someone who carefully planned and orchestrated a mini-genocide.

Mini-genocide? he wanted to sacrifice most of humanity and replace it with humanoid piggies.

RE: Daniel vs Mandus - Alardem - 10-23-2013

Semantics, semantics. It's NOT genocide, it's a 'cleansing'. Rolleyes

I suppose I can identify with Mandus' frustration with society and how vile people can be much more than I could with Daniel being motivated by self-preservation. I do suspect that he and Justine were both conduits for some greater evil contained within the artifacts they possessed (Egg and Soapstone) - Mandus literally admits to being a conduit, after all.
