Big improvement in the lighting on the second pic!

I have a feeling that getting the feel of the lighting engine in the Editor will probably be one of the biggest hurdles for people. It's very tough to get good lighting in any Engine to begin with, but the "Horror" genre in particular demands exceptional lighting to set the mood and get people immersed.

---> *snobbishly and arrogantly criticizes lighting of a room with sensible interior decoration*

---> *posts nearly black screenshot of an area that has venting particulate gasses rising from the floor and is held aloft by naked iron industrial styled supports which is decorated by totally out of place paper office furniture which would decay rapidly in the face of said gasses.*

Your map looks like grandpa's basement okay.

(edit: This post is to be taken lightheartedly in jest)

The problem right now seems to be, with no offense meant, people not applying their prior knowledge learnt in the HPL2 editor to HPL3 - which may be in part due to the different pipeline, I don't know honestly - and that as soon as people start reapplying that learned knowledge, the general quality of screenshots should rise.
I could definitely see that as well. I don't know how active the Amnesia modding/custom story scene was in recent years, from my cursory browsing of the mods it seems the vast majority were made way back in 2011-2013 and there were far fewer made after A Machine for Pigs came out (perhaps thanks to that game not utilizing modding).

It's possibly a lot of the modders just haven't kept up with things and so they may have forgotten their prior knowledge, in addition to getting used to a brand new pipeline.

Oh man, you gotta take it easy, take a joke.

Anyway, my issue is why there is an office in that location at all? In the main campaign the vast majority of papers are in either offices, or places where people routinely work (e.g. epsilon command room). What is in this room? Why is it bare machinery if it was a living area or an area people worked office stuff in? Is this a machinery room like in Omicron?

When I said it looked like a scene from grandpa's basement I meant exactly that: It appears to be a basement with a writing desk and a caukboard and a shelf. Why is it here? Why was the person here? Did a person move into this area after the disaster? If so, where did they sleep?

All I am saying is that I want to know more about why this out of place furniture got here.

What it meant was that the quality of mods rose dramatically in most cases, but the actual quantity decreased. The community only really died completely around 2014 onwards as most of the more experienced modders left for better pastures or to universities to study the skills they had learnt.

It's actually pretty interesting to look at what happened to the forums, honestly, and how the "idols" of the past vanished.
Off-topic, but can you point me towards the "Quality" mods/stories that came out after 2013? Most of the highly-rated/highly-viewed mods I found on Moddb are from 2011-2013. Feel free to PM since that's OT

So back in the "heyday", the main driving force of the mod community was because of the Youtube personas like Pewdz? Hmm, I could see how that could be somewhat frustrating Tongue

I really hope that Frictional will try to "engage" the consumerbase somehow and drive up interest in modding SOMA. I mean, there's a ton of content in this game that can be repurposed and re-done or altered. It'd be shame if it is never realized to its full potential.

You know, I think the Amnesia mansionbase assets can work okay in the urban environment if you can map correctly.

That's of course, not to say I can map correctly~

RE: [2015] What Are You Working On? Community Screenshots & Videos - PathOS - 10-04-2015

Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't the original Amnesia assets (especially from TDD) be very low res and low quality and standout pretty stark in HPL3?
