Civ V - Damascus Rose - 08-16-2012

So I tried the demo and thought it was pretty awesome, however that was with only 2 hours of playing before it shuts me out. So I created this thread for the purpose of asking you fine wonderful people if this game is worth it. Should I spend the 30 bucks and buy this game?

RE: Civ V - Prelauncher - 08-16-2012

Yes you should buy it Smile I love this game and have never regretted buying it

RE: Civ V - Bridge - 08-16-2012

If you have Civ IV go play that instead. I played it for 90 minutes and enjoyed it but it is just as lifeless and monotonous as Civ IV. The world leaders still don't have any personality, the war aspect is still completely ignored and the gameplay still consists mostly of automating units and clicking on things. I just never "got" Civ IV, instead opting for the Total War series which has pretty much everything Civ IV has plus some of the best RTS gameplay ever. Here are the new things (from what I could gather):

-Better graphics
-Hexagons instead of squares (what a huge leap forward…)
-You now have to pay people to be your friends
-Cities now have the power to shoot at enemies

And that's pretty much it. I admit, I haven't even completed an entire game yet but I was just disappointed by the lack of innovation and I was so burned out after playing a 15 hour Civ IV campaign I just have no interest in this sort of gameplay at the moment. Maybe you'll like it but as I said, if you have Civ IV just play that. If you don't, then I guess it's worth the money (I paid like $7 during the Steam sale, I think $30 is probably a bit too much).

TBH I've never played Civ IV so I can understand why Civ V would be a bad idea if you already have Civ IV. As for the Total War games; now there's a good game. Have played quite a few of them but never really enjoyed the later titles (empires, napoleon etc.) I preffer the ones taking place in the dark ages and Rome. I'm really looking forward to Rome Total War II Smile

Alright well I've never played any of the other Civ games, but I have played Empire total war. I think I liked Civ V more though because of the larger emphasis on the economy, but to be honest I haven't played it in a long time. I think I'm going to get Civ because a lot of my friends play it and I hear it's more fun multiplayer
