To be honest, if you guys are worried about immersion, do what the developers of heavy rain did. Have the achievements ( trophies in this case ) come up in a loading screen.

Alternatively, have achievements not even show up until you've beaten the game once and/or inputted the secret code from the endings, or have the achievement patch be wholly optional. Sure, it hurts immersion, but fun is fun.

I think this is an excellent idea. Perhaps if it is harmful to immersion, it can be switched on and off like the in game hints.
And about the spider...I didn't even see any in the game. Where are they? Can they attack you like the ones in Penumbra?

Electroshock Therapy - Get zapped by the Sanctums defenses.
Don't Look Back - Complete the Water Lurker chase in X amount of time.
I Quit - Jump to your death from the study window.
Fire Hot - Touch the fire in the first torture chamber.
More Than A Pinch - Shut yourself in the iron maiden.
BBQ Gone Bad - Melt the rotting pig.
Blinded By Love - Lure a Brute into the pits of the Chore.
Curious... - Find a cylinder.
...Curiouser - Find all cylinders.

Petting Zoo - Hit a grunt with a chunk of meat.
Extreme Petting Zoo - Hit a brute with a chunk of grunt flesh.

I Did Well! - Watch the flashback of Daniel murdering a man.
Monster Magnet - Get killed once by every monster in the game.
Tinderbox beginner - Have 10 tinderboxes at one time.
Tinderbox amateur - Have 25 tinderboxes at one time.
Tinderbox Pro - Have 45 Tinderboxes at one time.
Tinderbox Expert - Have 60 Tinderboxes at one time.

Run, Daniel! - Finish the game in 2 hours or less
There's no light at the end of the tunnel - Finish the game without using the Lantern and Tinderboxes.
