The acid couldn't even dissolve an already corroded lock all the way, let alone kill a monster. Sure, it would hurt the monster though.
I think I'd be even more scared in reality if I were Daniel...it would just be awful, and not even as fun. I'd probably have a nervous breakdown and go delirious in the wine cellar or something.
I'm pretty sure some acid would do some damage, if it could corrode a metal lock it will at least do some serious damage to the monster.
Plus in reality I'd be scared, but I'd also be smart.
Like I would do what I did in penumbra except with a saw or hammer instead of a pick axe, lure the monster over somewhere, then swing my saw at the back of its head, or hammer, or other various things I could use as weapon.

True, best shot would be to get it near the eyes and blind the monster...although that would involve coming face to face with it...that would be terrifying.
Maybe in reality it would be possible to find a sword down in the wine cellar left by one of Wilhelm or his men.

Yeah, I find it funny theres also a ton of armor sets but no swords or weapons displayed. Also theres quit a few knives you see.

1) Walk through whatever was in the place.
2) Search for something to defend or attack with.
3) Make sure that sanity levels will remain normal.
4) Make sure that the walk through the place is perfectly silent.
5) Stay perfectly still or hide in whatever spot possible if a monster is nearby.
6) Make sure area is clear or 100% safe.
Honestly, I wouldn't really care of suicide or insanity. I would just walk through it like a walk in the park.
And, this is the way I walk through a strange building in real life.

I would put the armor on that is in the first map, Get a metal piece of some sort and then craft a sword and slaughter every son of a b*tch monster that gets in my way...

When the monster run to beat you.... OK listen when monster reached you then you say:

You: STOP, 1 minute...
Grunt: Ok...
You: Who are you?
Grunt: I'm a monster with big mouth and I have 2 friends.
You: Who are those 2?
Grunt: Water Lurker and Brute.
You: Your friends are weird.
Grunt: aaaggggg (angry).
You: Ok, Ok, Calm down my friend, Where is your mom and dad?
Grunt: aaaaaahhh (thinking)....
You: You don't have parents?
Grunt: No, Why are you asking this stupid question?
You: Because I want to tell your parents that you scared peoples, hit them with your beautiful hands, Sometimes peoples turn off the game...
Grunt: OoOO0o0o0oo0...
You: So, umm yeah, You wanna drink something??
Grunt: Yeah, I love wines.
You: Look around for wines.
Grunt: Ok....
----------After 5 minutes...----------
You: Find any wines?
Grunt: No, Hey what is this in your hand?
You: This, This is a mango juice.
Grunt: Can you give some?, I'm really thirsty...
You: Oh sure here, Take this mango potion, I have 17 mango potions left..
Grunt: YUKH, It's.... It tastes like an oil...
You: Your mouth is big thats why you can't taste it hahahaha.
Grunt: aaaagggggg (Again angry)...
You: Hey, You want to eat something?
Grunt: Yeah...

Grunt: Your beautiful body, tasty body.....
You: I told you, you can't taste me..
Grunt: (Attacked you and your down)...
You: Ahh, Ahh, Hey (Weak), LOOK WHO'S BEHIND YOU...
