I've tested with a few games, and so far it doesn't seem to be. The test would be more conclusive if we knew that whatever game I was playing does in fact support surround sound.

I tried Think Tanks (the demo), a cute little game I picked from the list you gave me.
I also tried STALKER (Shadow of Chernobyl), which for some reason didn't even give me stereo.
