RE: Video Game Marketing

Thanks Zaffre, and indeed, you are right, i am finding it very difficult these days to notice any gameplay difference at all between game X and game y now, and its getting me down, especially when you consider the "modern shooter" is over-saturated, and sales are going through the floorboards, they are not profitable any longer, and yet marketing boards still insist on them, do they want another games crash? or are they just blind to the sudden market change that has happened in the last year or two?

you know the worst thing about these, sex and explosions and rap adverts?, when they use a very scantily clad female, big guns, massive explosions, and disgustingly obnoxious rap,to advertise a RACING GAME! (cough, the run, cough) that really grinds my teeth to powder!, i mean, come on, the Koennigseggs and Mclarens are the sex appeal there, you dont NEED the scantily clad girl! and what have guns, gangs, and explosions got to do with car culture? its just Filth and violence for the sake of Having Filth and Violence,. (sorry, im rather victorian, i find it very hard sometimes to resist the urge to send an email to these companies saying "tell your advert/booth girls to put some clothes on!") No Wonder Ferrari refuses to talk to "you know who" anymore, it would blow there glamourous image to bits in seconds! in fact, im disgusted at ANY company who would allow there cars to appear in a game with such content/ such an advertising campaign.

i quess they are all under 14, the fact the games tell you what to do every 5 seconds with constant controll hints shows they are aimed at not only a very young audience, but also one with next to no short or long term memory, and a very low attention span.

rap is the real turn of for me though, as i associate it with street thugs, EVIL CRIMINALS.

why do companies want to use that disgusting music to advertise there games?, i mean, the stuff a lot of Rap, especially that from LA and New york, promotes, rape, prostitution, murder, arms dealing, drugs dealing and drugs use, Rioting, violence against the police, even acts of what can only be described as full blown terrorism, should NEVER be seen as glamourous, and yet, by using rap music for there adverts, the games industry is making these EVIL gangs glamourous.

it genuinely feels to me, actually, like they are genuinely trying to aim the games at the sort of teenage animal who gets a kick out of ruining peoples lives with threats, violence, and anti social behavior in general, instead of at decent, law abiding, civillised people like, i hope, us here on the forums.
