RE: Need a little help, please?

As the poster of this thread, I decided to revive it, rather than make a new thread when I could simply ask my newer question here.

Now I bumped into a new problem. Sure, the GPU's fine and all, got one of the GPUs that Kreeks mentioned, and now I need your help again.

So, like I said originally, my mobo is a "GA-MA785-UD3H" as said in OP. But now, till next Christmas, I'd like to garner some more information about the CPU stuff. You see, no matter how hard I look, I can't find out the maximum CPU frequency that it's currently capable of handling.

I know the socket is AM3, which matters a lot, but here are 2 things I'm unsure of:
1) Maximum number of supported CPU cores. I read somewhere it might be only dual core, but I could be wrong.
2) The maximum frequency (Ghz). Sure, if my mobo supports a quad-core CPU, for example, but can't handle the frequency of the entire beast, then I'm back where I started.

If anyone can help, much appreciated once more. And to elevate things, +rep hungry peeps can receive a +1 if their answers are as accurate as possible.

You say that you have the GA-MA785-UD3H mobo which is incomplete. Do you have the G or GT model (GA-MA785G-UD3H or GT)? Also, can you list your current computer hardware because the previous pages have it all mixed up.

According to PC Wizard, it's GT (GA-MA785GT-UD3H). Dunno why it skipped that part.

RE: Need a little help, please?

Ok, can you list the rest of the hardware specs (cpu, ram, psu, gpu etc...) so that I can suggest properly? Are you only interested in a CPU upgrade?

I can definitely help you, just a few more info is needed first though. Wink

RE: Need a little help, please?

CPU upgrade would be "yes". GPU upgrade (earlier during the thread) was solved.

My specs would be:
AMD Athlon™ II X2 250 Processor (3.0GHZ, AM3 socket)

AMD Radeon HD 6670 (1GB DDR3, Gigabyte)
4096MB Kingston DDR3-1600MHZ
450W PSU (I don't know too much about this one)

I feel like I may be missing more, but these are the general ones I know about.

According to this website:

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product...id=3154#ov

it supports this cpu:

http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/p...rison.aspx

You can get a quad core at 3.7 GHz or a hex core at 3.3 GHz.

RE: Need a little help, please?

This mobo supports Phenom II processors so you can upgrade to a maximum of AMD Phenom II X6 (six-core) cpu.
CPU Support List

I also have this chipset on a different mobo and back then I was looking to get the 1090T but it's not like they are cheap. There are cheaper 6-cores you can look for though if you don't plan to overclock. If you don't, the 1090T is not worth it. So what's your plan?

RE: Need a little help, please?

How in the hell did I not see that stuff?! I looked on the same freakin website too, but couldn't find a deal about it. Damn, I need to go to a dentist to check my eyes.

Enough raging, thanks a lot. Now I know what to look for. Just need to be careful about the AM3 socket. Don't think an FM2 socket may work on this mobo, right?

If you mean an FM2 cpu, then no - a whole other deal. Don't get one of the best cpus there if you don't plan to overclock. It's a waste of money then. Depending on the budget you have, maybe we can suggest one of them.

RE: Need a little help, please?

Not intending to get a super CPU here. Just something that can help over my current one, just like with the GPU earlier during the thread.

It's the socket that's the main limitation, and wasn't sure about that stuff just yet. Now I know.
