What linux distribution (version, flavor, and 32 or 64bit).

What video card (including driver information)

contents of the hpl.log

output of glxinfo

Most likely if you have a supporting video card and driver, is that some of the libraries distributed with the game are just too old. Try replacing them with your system version (especially libCg)
