Amnesia: Rebirth – Five months later and SOMA sells 1M+ copies
It’s now been nearly 5 months since Rebirth was released and it’s high time we come to you with an update, don’t you think? But let’s start with an announcement that is even more overdue…
Amnesia is now open source!
Modding has been a huge part of Amnesia. For instance, over the years The Dark Descent has accumulated over a thousand mods and addons on ModDB. This flood of user content has been amazing to see and we are extremely grateful for the whole community surrounding it all.
It is time we gave something back!

The winter isn’t over, but our Winter Fan Jam is! For those unfamiliar, we held a modding jam over December and January, prompting the modders to explore the themes of Winter and/or Hibernation.

At the beginning of 2010, Frictional Games was five guys who had made a mildly successful game, working off quickly dwindling resources.
At the end of the decade, Frictional Games had grown to be 25 people across two projects, supported by steady income from a cult hit and an indie darling.

Almost exactly two years ago I screamed as an email titled “Frictional Games: Job Offer”. I continued screaming as I called my mother to tell her the news. Half an hour later she sent me a follow-up text.
“I looked at the website you sent me. Are you sure it’s a real company? I’m worried.”
Since that day, my life has never known peace.
9 Years, 9 Lessons on Horror
