It has now passed a little more than two years since we launched Amnesia and one year since the last report, so time for another! One would think that there is perhaps not much to be said this long after release, especially for a single player game with no built-in social features. But the fact is that Amnesia is still going very strong and 2012 will probably be the best financial year here at Frictional Games, which we would never had expected two years ago.

Amnesia – One year later
A year has passed since we first released Amnesia and a lot has changed for us at Frictional Games since. We have gone from being pretty much out of money, to being financially stable in a way we never thought we would be. Everybody in the company has gotten raised salaries and we have more than enough money to complete our next game.
Custom story competition: And the winners are…
Last week we closed the polls on our modest Custom Story competition. Over the last few months, fans have been able to vote for their favorite Custom Stories and over 600 people decided to take this opportunity. More than 40 stories competed in three categories: Best Custom Story, Most Potential, and Most Unique.
Amnesia: Post-Mortem
The story of Amnesia: The Dark Descent starts just as we were hard at work with Penumbra: Black Plague, a project that had been close to doom only a few months before. After various financial problems, Paradox Interactive had stepped in to provide the funds needed to complete the game.
Tech feature: Scripting upgrade
For a couple of months now I have, on and off, worked on some basic tech aspects for the engine. Everytime I was done with one of these I thought it was among the hardest things I would do for the new engine, yet the next feature as always proved more challenging. Terrain geometry was harder to implement than sun shadows, terrain texturing harder than geometry, and so on. Implementing the script system is no different.
Amnesia: Justine – Now available for everyone (Version 1.2)

During this period we have worked with not only Valve, but an entire range of talented independent developers, to give gamers a unique gaming experience.
